Prerequisite

Same prerequisites as for first year training course, plus :

Knowledge of semantic problems related to computer literature searching

Knowledge of information processing

Ability to apply RAMEAU rules for subject indexing

Ability to capture, treat and extract data using Access relational data base or WIN-ISIS data management program, and to generate catalogues and indexes

Capacity to guide new users and instruct them in literature searching processes

Capacity to provide counsel and service adapted to different user types (researchers, executives, practitioners,…)

Aims and Objectives

Associate trainee with daily management of the host institution. Specific objectives are the following :

Allow trainee to have closer contact with daily problems of the institution

Put trainee in situation to develop his capacities to integrate and participate

Help him to develop existing professional skills and to acquire new ones

Encourage him to experiment new technologies of information processing and management

Diversify and refine professional contacts with users.

Description

Same content as first year training course, but with more development. This year, the host institution can be other than a public library (see "Teaching and learning methods" below)

Teaching and Learning Methods

Full time work in actual professional surroundings during five consecutive weeks. Only one student can be in training at the same time in any given institution. Institution must be equipped and organized to allow for correct professional exercise, have usual users and competent personnel who accept to guide and counsel trainee and to tutor him in library and information processing operations. Guidance is also provided by the supervising teacher.

Assessment Methods

50 % based on assessment questionnaire filled out by host, and on supervisor observations during visit. 50 % based on the report written by the trainee. Non successful 2nd year training course automatically refusal 1st session
