Aims and Objectives

To enable the students to have a good knowledge of all the vibration. Thus they will be able to recognise the different cases of vibration and bring out a solution to the different problems.

Description

General approach

Study of two harmonic movements with the same direction and with perpendicular directions.

Material waves

Transverse and the longitudinal waves. Wave propagation. Interferences, diffractions, property of wave motion. Döppler‑Fizeau Effect.

The sound

Reflection, refraction, diffraction interference scattering and reverbration

Ultrasonics

Ultrasound physics. Calculation of the power of an ultrasonics source. Ultrasonic wave propagation. Ultrasonic transducers and systems. Ultrasonics in control applications.

Wave optics

The nature of light. Reflection. Refraction. Interferences. Diffraction. Light polarization.

Mechanical vibrations

Single degree of freedom system: motion equation, free vibration, forced vibration, resonance, damped free vibration, forced vibration with damping.

Rotor: types of unbalance and equilibration

Balancing fundamentals, definition, static unbalance, dynamic unbalance. Principle of balancing machines Critical speed of shaft.
