Aims and Objectives | The goal of Mechanical engineering is to study machine elements to rate their strength to provide a good service in a sufficient lifetime. Use of standardization, empirical rules and economic criteria is required. |
Description | Types of contact between solids. Hertz's theory. Calculation of wheels for cranes. Rolling resistance. Study of rolling bearings : description, dynamic and static rating, lubrication, mounting and dismounting, maintenance. Assembly of hubs on shafts : keyways. Fasteners : geometry and calculation. Belts transmission : principle, geometry, calculation, mounting. Gears transmissions : involute, distance, geometric wheel in a plane, gearmeshing in the plane, reference rack, shift profile, hobbing, normal and modified centerdistance, contact ratio, helicoïdal gears, rating of geometry, strengths, contact stresses.
