The goal of Mechanical Engineering is to study machine elements to rate their strength to provide a good service in a sufficient lifetime.

Use of standardization, empirical rules and economic criteria is required.

Description

Friction. Types of lubrication. Newtonian fluid.

Theory of hydrodynamics (plane and cylindrical) ; calculation and technology of thrust and radial plain bearings.

Endurance.

Calculation of shafts of machines.

Friction between discs and between cones.

Assembly of hubs on shafts : interference fit.

Inertia.
