Computing for LIS 2nd year or knowledge of  RDBMS  issues and software as well as some knowledge of Visual Basic.

Aims and Objectives

The course is centered around the concept of information exchange between applications.

Description

Comparative study of some bibliographic software : how are the data entered, stored, retrieved ? File structure, forms and report capabilities and indexing/search techniques.

Comparative study of some data formats : unimarc, MARC21, tagged formats (eg. BRS, Medlars), XML, BiblioML , (X)HTML.

Introduction to free/open source integrated library management software (PMB, ABCD).

Introduction to EDMS (Electronic Document Management Systems).
