Prerequisite

Since the first course unit is the continuation of what the student has learnt in secondary education, he/she is supposed to have a good command of the linguistic structures and of the vocabulary of the target language in order to be able to read and write a text of an intermediate level, and to understand and participate in an everyday conversation.

Aims and Objectives

1. Command of the basics of Dutch grammar

2. Ability

a) to do oral exercises about telephone conversations (summaries, role playing)

b) to summarize written and audiovisual documents and to comment on them in writing and orally

c) to deliver 5-minute speeches

Description

1. Linguistic structures: the students are brought up to the required level by means of a theoretical synthesis illustrated with examples and supplemented with appropriate exercises

2. Discovery and practice of the written language: study of various types of documents dealing both with topics related to the specificity of the department and with subjects of more general cultural interest

3. Command of the spoken language: summaries of written and audiovisual documents, discussions about them; five-minute speeches
